QUOTE:

shortages are already happening around the world
and in the US

I don't see it getting better any time soon

That was the final nail in deciding to post it, is that there is food shortages going on. Does anyone remember the Rice shortages that even affected the U.S.?

Just doesn't thrill me to think that this might be in the works...

Is it all true? Maybe, I'd rather post this kind of thing and be wrong, than to not post it for those who would care to read it.

It seems kinda odd that some of the very names and very things were seeing and hearing today are mentioned by this article written back in 2001.

At this juncture, your writer points to the fact that several key policies of "Project 80s," were major issues that dealt with the now hugely propagandized ecology "problems" and the aforementioned, population reduction-- the latter of heightened importance to the self appointed, Malthusian guardians of the world. In this regard, Carter signed the 1000-+ page "Global 2000" ode to sustainable growth, ecology management and population reduction. The volume in its original form, underwent an editorial catharsis shortly after release. Some of its most provocative pages betrayed the stark Malthusian visions: the writers document that 2 billion is the hoped for or preferable number for world population in toto. Also in this period, many books by sanctioned elitist ecologists and new-age futurologists, were widely distributed, especially in the academic halls of vulnerable minds who would become future guardians of the national patrimony. They dealt with scare mongering the American population with issues of unsustainable growth, the future filled with alleged shortages of natural resources, shortages of food, potable water, the grievous state of alleged over population and world destroying pollution threats.

All of their claims remained nothing but highly speculative theories, all of them based on circumspect texts of sophistic studies that never to this day passed the strict examination codes of genuine scientists, who, upon their own physical examination of the dreadful claims, found no evidence to substantiate them. In the early seventies, a Kissinger/Vance document, NSM or National Security Memorandum 200 was issued and classified. Years later, 80 pages were declassified. The treatise was a shocking piece of pompous bravado, a work of ultimate arrogance by the United States National Security Council. It demanded the curbing of populations in 13 Third World countries. It stated on page one, that Third World natural resources were imperative to the "national security" of the United States. The document betrayed the insidious aim for its population control programs: Multitudes of unemployed unruly youths in the Third World who would in the future pose a dangerous and difficult problem as far as the U.S.'s plans to harvest natural resources in those troubled regions. From its twisted policies, came the myriads of population and society changing programs of the UN in the Third World.

Volcker's actions were followed up by the 1981 Kemp-Roth Tax act, which opened up real estate and stock market to irrational speculations, destroyed U.S fiscal policy; and by the 1982, the Garn-St Germain Act, which deregulated the U.S. banking system. In 2000, the Glass-Spiegal Act enacted during the Great Depression to prohibit the merging of different institutions to prevent conflict of interest in investment practices, was abolished. Ordinary investors no longer have any true protections in a world fraught with cutthroat investment practices. The whole apparatus has shifted policy decisively away from financing physical production into pure speculation.

The policies of `controlled disintegration' are now ominously reaching the point of logical conclusion.

There are a million and one stories in the naked global village. The above is just one. More to follow.

PROJECT 80S: THE CFR'S PROGRAM FOR "CONTROLLED DISINTEGRATION"

By Angie Carlson
August 8, 2001

It is a dream-come-true for the world's chief theoreticians, the technocrats, Keynesian economists, for change agents worldwide and all quisling politicians.

Indeed, it was the Second World war master propagandist, Dr. Goebbels himself, who declared that for a lie to be believed, it must be grandiose and repeated often. Goebbels said a big lie will gradually become indistinguishable from the truth and all the more believable. Having proved the verity of Goebbels wisdom, the same must be said about the criminal fraud on a grandiose global scale, imposed upon a largely unsuspecting world, in the present age.

Policy makers, using the avenue of their controlled mass propaganda machine, set out on a massive campaign to deceive people into swallowing the lies of the "new era." The policies, laws, Treaties signed to usher in this new era with its new economy, were of course touted as beneficial change, as changes prudent for a now more sophisticated people and that livelihoods and nations could only benefit.

The liars perfected the Goebbelian falsehood into an Olympian profession that parallels the messianic zeal of the most ardent cult promoting its religion of redemption. Using the irresistibly seductive communication technology of the second half of the 20th century, the media cult conveyed to the world that unregulated free-trade, privatization (read the expropriation by multinational corporations) of national assets; deregulated banking and national utilities, as well highly speculative and unregulated investing practices, were all correct policies. Out of their ivy halls and think tanks came the intelligentsia and the US government spokespeaple, to preach the sermon of the new economy and free trade and to prepare the nation for the dawning of the age of Aquarius. Following Goebbels sage advice verbatim, the propaganda machine uttered ceaselessly the sugar coated mantra of what was fatefully to prove the process of "controlled disintegration." They told Western nations, that the original source of their nations' enrichment, the manufacturing base of their "real physical" economies, had finally outlived its usefulness. They screamed in the headlines that the manufacturing economy must now be replaced by service industries run by information technology. The media and their academic allies, professed to a baffled and tired world, that these smart new world policies must surely lead to the greater prosperity of ordinary people and leisure time would increase ten-fold. They said that de-industrialization of the Western world and the redistribution of wealth to the Third World, is of course the logical, fair and efficient thing to do, and the whole wide world would be a happier and richer place.

At the same time, the propagandists worked their magic tricks no less on the struggling masses of the Third World. The poorer nations were serenaded by international charlatans with doublespeak concerning the merits of exorbitantly high interest loans, oppressive measures to meet those loans, and slave labor. They were advised that they would prosper greatly from employment conditions of near slave labor-like conditions, in the West's transported factories. This, even if without the fair wages and health measures demanded by Western employees. The spin meisters convinced corrupt leaders that such feudal conditions were preferable to no labor at all, referring to the massive unemployment problems prevalent in their wretched nations--with ever destabilizing events producing demographic stresses, conflict and displacement. Neo Goebbelians everywhere bellowed continuously to all the world's increasingly beset and confused people the lies--again and again--until the lies took on a surreal aura of verity, finally becoming absorbed in most psyches worldwide. The peoples' need to believe a hopeful thing, even if against their better judgment... and as a result, rendered them befuddled and ever more exhausted, unable to distinguish truth from error.

Globalism and all its baggage: free trade, unregulated infrastructures, privatization, uncontrolled stock markets that are no more than legal racketeering establishments, deindustrializing, make for the largest, most cynical and destructive sting operation ever yet imposed upon humanity.

"We need an understanding if we are to minimize the chances that 'we' will experience a systematic disruption beyond our degree of comprehension or our ability to respond effectively...", said Alan Greenspan, talking about the Global Financial Infrastructure, on May 7, 1998.

Greenspan was fearfully saying that we, (read the elite), need to understand that the heretofore controlled disintegration of the U.S. economy, has reached a point of uncontrolled disintegration, and no longer the desired "controlled disintegration" they had so carefully engineered.

How is it possible for world economies to systematically, one after the other and then all simultaneously, disintegrate before some six billion pairs of eyes? How can this be? It is possible, because those six billion some odd pair of eyes have not witnessed the design of their destruction.

Barely known, is that Federal Reserve Chairman Greenspan's predecessor, Paul Volcker, in 1979, actually instituted a policy of "controlled disintegration." The New Federalist and Executive Intelligence Review, (EIR) are the only publications of note, which, over the years, have exposed and discussed this bombshell, at length. In a recent issue of EIR, writer Richard Freeman, says "that this policy was to serve as a cornerstone of a major policy shift in the United States.

The purpose was to level the physical economy of the wider world economy, with particularly destructive effects in the U.S."

Freeman explains that the British started the implementation of this policy in the late 1960s, with acceleration during the 70s-80s. Your writer saw with alarm the effects of those policies a decade ago on a visit. Thoughtful observers returning to Britain in those years, experienced the drastic and negative effects, what seemed a determined change for the worst. Why else would a nation enjoying great wealth fall into this measure of unwarranted deprivation and decadence? The breakdown continues to this day. First, uncontrolled free trade destroyed Britain's strong base of manufacture, then went her mines and ship yards, then the U.K. experienced the society debilitating "deregulated" energy policies with its high prices and inefficiencies, long before California unceremoniously woke up to the shocking, sky high energy bills and the grand fraud now more deeply imbedded in their own deregulated energy department.

The news wires mock Britain's capacity to tolerate several catastrophic public railway accidents with high casualty numbers. They expose to the world the sad tales of a once efficient rail service that presently has been systematically transformed into a disgracefully unattended, unsafe, and expensive mode of travel. Perhaps you've heard about the dreadful condition of Britain's dilapidated national health services, rampant with horrific abuses of malpractice, several cases of iatrogenic serial murder and sinister experiments, and the now familiar complaints decrying the very poor healthcare with long waiting periods. Woeful news articles detail the lack of adequate services throughout society, no longer a rare phenomenon. All the aforementioned conditions correspond in parallel with the degeneration generally of British society, not only economically, but socially and culturally. The degree of attrition is catching up here in the United States, also throughout society: less effective or safe air transportation, expensive and/or inadequate or poor health services, poor or lack of housing for working poor, innefective schooling, huge crime numbers, etc. These conditions are prevalent throughout the deindustrializing West. And all the while, the economic conditions of the majority of Westerners declines, while the tiny economic group at the top, becomes much richer.

Freeman in EIR reveals that Volcker's activities were guided by the "controlled disintegration" policies of one of the oligarchy's central institutions in the U.S., the New York Council on Foreign Relations, known more commonly as the CFR.

Starting in 1973, the CFR embarked upon a massive, nation changing project it named "Project 1980s." This project had at its core, the policy of "controlled disintegration." The top figures of "Project 1980s" of the Trilateral Commission, were chosen to become the top leadership of, and ran the government of, former Trilateral Commission member, Jimmy Carter, in 1977.

Paul Volcker was appointed Federal Reserve Chairman of the Board in August 1978, by then President Jimmy Carter. It was on November 9, 1978, that Volcker delivered the Fred Hirsch Memorial Lecture at Warwick University, in England. Volcker cited Hirsch and affirmed the policy by saying: "A controlled disintegration in the world economy is a legitimate object for the 1980s." Freeman adds, "it was not by chance that starting the week of Oct. 6-12, 1979, Volcker began raising interest rates, by raising the federal funds rate and increasing certain categories of reserve requirements for commercial banks. He kept pushing rates upward, until, by December 1980, the prime lending rate of U.S. commercial banks reached 21.5%."

A small understanding of elementary Keynesian economics leads one to grasp what Freeman explains: that the effects of this policy were swift and devastating, especially because the oligarchy had used two oil hoaxes during the 1970s, to send oil prices shooting upward. In the United States, industrial and agricultural production collapsed by huge amounts. Between 1979 and 1982, the production of the following critical U.S. manufacturing industries fell by the following amounts on a per-capita basis: metal-cutting machine tools, down 45.5%; bulldozers, down 53.2%; automobiles, down 44.3%; and steel, down 49.4%. In some cases, such as the machine-tool industry, parts of machine-tool capacity and of a skilled workforce were permanently lost. Those collapsing industries formed the very heart of the United States' physical economy. A similar pattern, on a greater or lesser scale, emerged in other industrial nations. These losses were due directly to the policies meant to bring the United States in closer parity with poorer nations. In the strictest sense of the Fabian politics of gradualism: "Controlled disintegration" would in time accomplish the goal.

Freeman explains that Volcker's measure also exacerbated the Third World debt crisis, and pushed it to the critical point. Third world nations had to finance their debt at an interest rate level of above 20%, which compounded the debt. Between 1979 and 1983, Third world debt levels, depending on the country, shot up by 40 to 70%. Your writer and the nation are informed in drone-like repetitions, that the poorer nations owe billions. The truth is, these poverty stricken nations have in fact more than doubled their obligations, in other cases, tripled their payments to the IMF and World Development Bank. The horrible truth is that they have been cruelly ripped off at the expense of their own national development in the social, economic and health spheres of their now miserably collapsing nations. All media lies notwithstanding, almost all of these borrowing nations today suffer more than they ever did. They were far better off before the cynical advent of the most dubious policies behind the canard of "world development." The problems are serious and diverse, ranging from famine, tribal conflict, serious warfare and widely prevailing plagues. Tens of millions of these suffering people are on the move to find work and security in the developed nations, where a demographic imbalance and social instability now threaten harmony.

BLUEPRINT FOR EXTINCTION

Indeed, it is a blueprint for extinction. Freeman in the pages of EIR explains that "Project 1980s" was composed of ten working groups. These tens groups toiled during the 1970s and eventually produced 33 volumes. The CFR's blueprint for economics was outlined in the book, "Alternatives to Monetary Disorder," one of whose authors was Fred Hirsch. Hirsch was the former editor of the London "Economist" magazine, the Fabian Socialists' Rothschild backed organ, and it is he whom Volcker quoted in his infamous 1978 lecture, announcing his policy.

Freeman asks: What did Hirsch mean in his book by "controlled disintegration"? The expression meant that the world economy would be pushed into disintegration---but not in an uncontrollable fashion. Rather, the plutocrats hoped it could control the process. They posit that it would be necessary for outside forces to deliver economic shocks to carry out this disintegration of the world economy: oil shocks, credit cut-offs (to mainly already struggling poorer nations) interest rate shocks, IMF austerity measures, etc., forcing the world economy to go to zero, and eventually negative growth. Today, a cursory view at selected business news sites on the Internet, on any given day, convey the alarming state of increasing world economic disintegration.

At this point, we note especially that the U.S., in the first quarter 2001, experienced negative manufacturing growth and this state has persisted for the last 9-11 months, only to continue on its downward spiral. Given the obscure polices of "Project 80s," it is equally important to bear in mind that manufacturing makes for a dismal 20% of our economic output and consumption of cheap imports two-thirds of support of the largest economy the world has ever seen. It is thus no surprise that our exports imbalances make for alarming deficits and cheap imports drive a consuming economy, much to its debt laden detriment. The U.S. is almost strictly an economy based on service industries. That service economy, inspite of the rosy predictions, is now declining. For the largest economy on the planet, it seems dumfounding to those who do not realize that the US is experiencing a determined course of "controlled disintegration."

Freeman says that in its 33 books, the CFR's "Project 1980s" covered a wide range of subjects, including plans for erecting a Bertrand Russell-H.G. Wells form of world government; finding methods to implement the mechanism of "stopping weapons of mass destruction," and methods for radical population reduction. The CFR called the overall project the largest undertaking in its history.

It was no idle exercise in futurology, asserts Freeman perceptively. "Their 33 volumes constituted blueprints, which the oligarchy used its power to institute during the second half of the 1970s and the 1980s. They imposed one of the most profound shifts in economic and nation-state policy during the 20th century."

Once the elitist Trilateral Commission's Jimmy Carter was installed as President, the British/American Commonwealth's oligarchical faction transferred the CFR's "Project 1980s" into his administration. Two of the Project's nine directors were W. Michael Blumenthal and Zbigniew Brzezinski; they were appointed Treasury Secretary and National Security Adviser, respectively. Cyrus Vance, who headed a "Project 1980s" working group, was appointed Secretary of State. Paul Volcker, spokesman for "Project 1980s" "controlled disintegration," became Federal Reserve Board Chairman.

Topic: Credit crisis could lead to food crisis Sun 10/12/08 03:37 AM
By: D. H. Williams @ 3:29 PM

The credit crisis is having an impact on food shipments as sellers are refusing to load goods on to ships. No longer trusting letters of bank credit many food sellers are wanting full payments from point of origin before shipping, causing a disruption in the distribution of food.

“There’s all kinds of stuff stacked up on docks right now that can’t be shipped because people can’t get letters of credit,” said Bill Gary, president of Commodity Information Systems in Oklahoma City. “The problem is not demand, and it’s not supply because we have plenty of supply. It’s finding anyone who can come up with the credit to buy.”

The engineered financial crisis battering global equity and bond markets will not stay contained on Wall Street or the halls of Congress for much longer. The intentional destabilization of our banking and monetary system by Paulson, Bernanke and their controllers in the CFR is spilling on to main street and your local grocery store shelves.

Read “Project 80’s: The CFR’s Program for Controlled Disintegration.” (Posted below-WM)

The next phase in this controlled disintegration will be distribution bottlenecks in supplies of real commodities. Food being the most important. All ready ports in the US and South America are being effected with Canada to follow in the next few days.

Ports rely on the faith they have in lending institutions world wide and European and American leaders have done their best to terrorize these markets with inflammatory language and bad legislation.

Maritime traders tell Daily Newscaster that 90% of the worlds goods get shipped by sea and they are seeing a drastic reduction in supply. The main source of shipping measurement is, the Baltic Dry Goods Index this index is showing a 74% drop from previous historically high levels.

So far the only reports of food shortages or panic buying in the stores is coming from Alaska and it is anecdotal evidence so far.

Be forewarned as this crisis develops, planned and implemented by those who control the global banking cartel you will see food and other commodities increase in price and availability decline.

“We’ve got a nightmare in front of us and a lot of people are concerned it’s going to get a lot worse,” said Anthony Temple, a grain marketing expert based in Vancouver.

Our advice is to get yourself and your family prepared now. Increase the amount of food stuff you keep at home. At the very least a 60 day supply for everyone in your family. Keep in mind earlier generations of Americans, that’s your grandparent; would routinely keep up to six months of food stored.

For longer term storage look into food that is package with long term storage in mind.

Topic: Judge Napolitano says Bailout violates U. S. Constitution Sun 10/12/08 03:33 AM
By: D. H. Williams @ 8:09 PM

Andrew Napolitano says on Fox Business that the government has broken the supreme law of the land by illegally taking money from American citizens and giving it to private interest.

“It [The Constitution] only lets the government spend money for the general welfare. Which is defined as something everybody can use. A bridge, a hospital, a school, a roadway.” Napolitano says,“The government confiscated private property without compensating you. The Constitution prohibits that.”

Judge Napolitano goes on to compare the illegal bailout of last week to Hugo Chavez in Venezuela who supports National Socialism.

Only last year the same media talking heads and US politicians who supported the bailout/nationalization of private companies were complaining about Chavez when he nationalized an oil company.

While I personally despise Socialism at least the people of Venezuela benefited from what Chavez did as you can buy a gallon of gasoline for under $.30 there.

The type of socialism passed in the US Congress last week will only benefit wealthy corporate heads, banks and the politicians who appropriated/stole the money. While causing irreparable damage to the real economy and US citizens.

Neil Cavuto says to Bush, “Hugo Chavez of Venezuela is going to be taking over a lot of business’ by the end of the week. He will effectively become a dictator.”

Bush says, “My worry is the nationalization of industry will make it harder for the Venezuelan people to be lifted out of poverty.”

Army Orders Pain Ray Trucks; New Report Shows 'Potential for Death'

For $25 Million, Army Buys System That Drives Off Rioters With Microwave-Like Beam
By DAVID HAMBLING
Oct. 11, 2008

After years of testing, the Active Denial System -- the pain ray which drives off rioters with a microwave-like beam -- could finally have its day. The Army is buying five of the truck-mounted systems for $25 million. But the energy weapon may face new hurdles, before it's shipped off to the battlefield; a new report details how the supposedly non-lethal blaster could be turned into a flesh-frying killer.

The contract for the pain ray trucks is "expected to be awarded by year's end," Aviation Week notes. "A year after the contract is signed, the combination vehicle/weapons will start be fielded at the rate of one per month."

It's been a very long time coming. As we've previously reported, there have been calls to deploy the Active Denial System in Iraq going back to 2004. But it's always been delayed for legal, political, and public relations reasons. Anything that might be condemned as torture is political dynamite. Interestingly, the version being bought is not the full-size "Version 2," but a containerized system known as Silent Guardian, which Raytheon have been trying to sell for some time. They describe Silent Guardian as "roughly 1/3 the size and power of the other Active Denial Systems," and quote it's range as "greater than 250 meters." The larger system has a range somewhere in excess of 700 meters.

Silent Guardian weighs a shade over 10,000 pounds all up, and will be mounted on an "armored ruggedized HEMTT [Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck]."

The announcement arrives on the same day as a new report from less-lethal weapons expert Dr. Jürgen Altmann that analyzes the physics of several directed energy weapons, including Active Denial, the Advanced Tactical Laser (used as a non-lethal weapon), the Pulsed Energy Projectile (a.k.a. "Maximum Pain" laser) and the Long Range Acoustic Device (a.k.a. "Acoustic Blaster").

Dr. Altmann describes the Active Denial beam in some detail, noting that it will not be completely uniform; anyone unlucky enough to be caught in the center will experience more heating than someone at the edge. And perhaps more significant is his thorough analysis of the heating it produces -- and the cumulative effect if the target does not have the chance to cool down between exposures. In U.S. military tests, a fifteen-second delay between exposures was strictly observed; this may not happen when the ADS is used for real.

"As a consequence, the ADS provides the technical possibility to produce burns of second and third degree. Because the beam of diameter 2 m and above is wider than human size, such burns would occur over considerable parts of the body, up to 50% of its surface. Second- and third-degree burns covering more than 20% of the body surface are potentially life-threatening – due to toxic tissue-decay products and increased sensitivity to infection – and require intensive care in a specialized unit. Without a technical device that reliably prevents re-triggering on the same target subject, the ADS has a potential to produce permanent injury or death. "

This potential hazard need not be a show-stopper -- existing less-lethals, such as plastic bullets and tear gas, can also be fatal under some circumstances (and I'm not even going to get into the argument about Tasers).

Dr. Altmann notes that "the present analysis has not found convincing arguments that the ADS would be immoral or illegal in each foreseeable circumstance," and that acceptance will depend very much on how it is used. If the ADS prevents small boats from approaching a U.S. vessel without harming anyone, then it will be seen as a humane option. If it is used to clear protesters out of the way it may be seen differently.

Meanwhile, the National Institute of Justice is still has a reported interest in a "hand-held, probably rifle-sized, short range weapon that could be effective at tens of feet for law enforcement officials." That's just one of the likely domestic applications of Active Denial technology which are likely to follow if the Army's experiment with ADS is successful. A lot of people will be watching this one very closely.

Cobb police add tank to arsenal
By DERRICK MAHONE

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Friday, October 10, 2008

Don’t be surprised to see an Army tank rolling down a street near you.

The Cobb County police department has refurbished a donated Armored Personnel Carrier for officers to use in SWAT situations.

The vehicle, which retails for $500,000, is a Light Armor Vehicle that was used by the U.S. Army in Panama. The county paid $45,000 to upgrade the vehicle for police use.

Equipped with thermal sensors, computerized tracking devices, night vision, tear gas launchers and other gadgets, the all-black six-wheel unit can hold up to nine SWAT officers.

It has a new engine and transmission, which will allow it to reach a speed of 60 miles per hour.

“In these times, you don’t know what you are facing,” Cobb police chief George Hatfield said. “We want the maximum safety for our officers and the public. We want to be prepared for whatever comes up. This is another tool that will allow us to be quicker and faster in our response.”

Since 2000, SWAT has used a Peacekeeper vehicle on calls. The APC will allow SWAT officers to get closer to dangerous situations and transport citizens out of them. If officers are tracking a suspect, they can do so from within the vehicle. So far this year, Cobb’s SWAT team has responded to about 50 calls.

Walker County is the only other police department in Georgia with a similar vehicle. Gwinnett County and the state patrol use the LENCO vehicle, which resembles an armored truck. Clayton County has a Peacekeeper vehicle.

“You always hope that you don’t have to use it, but this is becoming a fact of life,” SWAT commander Lt. Joel Preston said. “You have to be prepared and make the situation safer.”

Once SWAT members complete training on the APC, the Peacekeeper will be refurbished for future use.

“These two units will eventually work in tandem,” said Det. Steve Brawner, who has overseen the project.

Beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, the APC will be on display at Marietta’s town square.

Topic: We're all socialists now Sun 10/12/08 03:11 AM
by Paul Mulshine October 11, 2008 1:43PM

I've noticed lately that a lot of people seem to have discovered that Barack Obama is a socialist.

There's a lot of that going around.

Socialism, I mean.

The only politician that I know of on the national scene who is definitely not a socialist is Texas congressman Ron Paul. And look where that got him. During the presidential primary campaign Paul was treated as a laughingstock by his fellow Republicans for such stances as his call for young people to be permitted to opt out of Social Security.

Paul's having the last laugh these days. As you can see in this clip, the entire U.S. economy is now socialist thanks to the big corporate bailout, says Dr. Paul.

http://www.lewrockwell.com/blog/lewrw/archives/023456.html

And then there is the unpleasant fact that every senior citizen in America is what my Aussie friends used to call "a dole bludger," someone who takes welfare without working.

One such apparent dole bludger held forth at a recent McCain rally in Wisconsin. The old codger worked himself up into a frenzy that even the hot-tempered McCain might envy, screaming "I'm mad, I'm really mad!" and then shouting, "And what's going to surprise ya, is it's not the economy, it's the socialists taking over our country."

The old coot made it clear that the hated socialists are the Democrats. But assuming he was over 65, which he certainly appeared to be, the guy is receiving the benefit of at least two socialist programs. One, of course, is Social Security. There's a reason they called it "social" security and not Capitalist Security. It's a welfare program and the current codgers are getting a free ride paid for by working Americans. True, they paid into it, but anyone who lives a normal life span will get out a lot more than he or she put in.

And then there's Medicare. The current crop of seniors paid a pittance into it during their working years, but they now have the benefit of a system of socialized medicine till the day they die.

Does this guy really want McCain to fight socialism in America?

Imagine McCain told this guy he was absolutely right and as of January President McCain would end Social Security and Medicare and pay back to senior citizens the amount they paid in, with interest. By February, this geezer would be at a rally demanding to have his Medicare coverage restored.

The truth is, Americans love socialism. They'd better. This is a socialist country. Here's an interesting article that compares our government-funded health care systems, primarily Medicare and Medicaid, with other countries:

"The average rich-country government spends 6.7 percent of GDP on health; America's 6.8 percent is very slightly higher. The national health systems of Canada and Britain cost about 6.9 percent of GDP, and that of Australia 6.4 percent. Germany's government spends the most on health care at 8.9 percent of GDP, followed by Norway, Sweden, France, and Denmark."

http://www.ppionline.org/ppi_ci.cfm?knlgAreaID=108&subsecID=900003&contentID=254167

The big difference, of course, is that in most of those countries the socialized system covers everyone, while our socialized system covers just the poor and the elderly. Oh yeah, don't let me forget government workers. They have a system of guaranteed benefits and early retirement that the typical Brit or Swede would envy.

So our system is socialism. It's just an inept form of socialism. And it's also an unsupportable form. The baby-boomer retirement was going to bankrupt us even before the recent market meltdown. Now we could be on the verge of a slide into Third-World status. I've been to countries where you need to carry a backpack just for the bills needed to buy a beer. It's not a pretty sight.

The only way to prevent that would be to take the harsh medicine that Dr. Paul offered us during the primary season. But not a lot of Americans want that prescription, and I suspect the old crank in this video would be among the last to down a dose of it.

NOTE: Michael Cannon of the Cato Institute just sent me a paper in which he argues that Obama's plan is socialized medicine, as is Medicare. He doesn't deal with McCain's plan, but it is slightly less socialist than Obama's.

This is part of a longer debate between Dr. Paul and Charles Partee of the Federal Reserve on the Gold Standard. The entire debate can be seen here.

Since this topic has the Good Doctor's name in the heading, how about this!

During an appearance on CNN’s The Situation Room, Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer, a Democrat, said Montana is “one of the only states in the country Ron Paul will be on the ballot as the Constitution candidate,” and “if you travel across Western Montana, you’ll actually see more Ron Paul signs than you do John McCain. … If you include Paul in the polling, he gets somewhere between five and eight percent. And then Obama and McCain are tied around five.” Schweitzer said, “Ron Paul is going to be the decider here.”

Monsanto-Backed State Bill Seeks to Outlaw rBGH-Free Label Claims on Milk Products

David Gutierrez
Natural News
Saturday, Oct 11, 2008

The Indiana House of Representatives is considering a bill that would prohibit dairy products from being labeled as free of recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH).

RBGH, also known as recombinant bovine somatotropin (rBST), is an artificially synthesized version of the growth hormone that normally occurs in cows. When injected into dairy cows, rBGH vastly increases their milk production. But consumer concerns over the potential health effects of dairy products produced with rBGH have led an increasing number of brands and retailers to advertise their products as “rBGH-free.”

The synthetic hormone’s use is not permitted in the European Union.

Indiana HB 1300 is meant to prevent the mislabeling of dairy products, according to its author, Rep. Bill Friend. If passed, HB 1300 would prohibit making any claims on dairy labels that cannot be supported by laboratory analysis.

Current Indiana rules, along with FDA rules and the rules of all other U.S. states, allow labels to specify that products were produced from cows not treated with rBGH. But if HB 1300 becomes law, makers of rBGH-free milk would have to prove in laboratory tests that their product is different from milk produced with the hormones.

RBGH manufacturer Monsanto has repeatedly claimed that “rBGH-free” claims unfairly make consumers believe that milk produced with hormones is different than milk produced without it.

Critics of the bill argue that consumers have overwhelmingly demonstrated that they want hormone-free milk. Major dairy brands Tillamook cheese and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream now use rBGH-free milk in their products, as does the U.S. store Starbucks Coffee.

“[HB 1300] would be a serious infringement on the free speech rights of farmers who want to inform the public about their agricultural practices,” said Wenonah Hauter, executive director of Food and Water Watch. “Indiana’s consumers, like consumers nationally, are rejecting milk made with rBGH and have to be given the basic right to choose the characteristics of the food they buy.”

Right off the top of my head, go look at the "preemptive" strikes made on protestors in Minnesota before the RNC, or the Nuns, who happen to be against the war, in Maryland, who were spied on and added to the Terror Watchlist.

I lived in Kansas and I've asked a handful of folks about this subject here in Colorado and those that are given the whole story and not just some 30 second blurb on the tube, they get pissed off. No one who gets the big picture about the Globalists Total Information Awareness grid (Cue 3-d Pyramid with the all seeing eye, thats really what they used as their logo anyway) says that standard mind control line of: If you're not doing anything you shouldn't worry about it. Those people are sheep just goosestepping all the way to the slaughterhouse, imo.

On 10/3/08, retired Four-Star General Wesley Kanne Clark took part in a discussion about International Justice at the UCLA Law School. Clark, who had been Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) of NATO during Operation Allied Force in the Kosovo War, insisted that international justice is important but in conflict with the long history in the United States of acting as seen fit in the moment.

Clark gave examples of the US-driven coups in Iran, Guatemala and Chile, but failed to mention Operation Gladio, which, under NATO and CIA cover with help from extremist-right fascist secret societies, utilized false-flag terrorism against innocent civilians in Europe after World War II. He also, of course, failed to mention his connections with the leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army, who were known to have committed atrocities against civilians, were closely linked to Al-Qaeda (Al-CIA-duh!) and seriously involved in the international heroin trade.

So, I decided to bring it up after the talk was over while Clark was yacking it up about his debate the night before with Karl Rove. Incidentally, Clark has been alleged to have said-whether seriously or not is debated- that the only reason that he is a registered Democrat is because Rove didn’t return his phone calls.

Clark first appeared to play dumb or uninterested when I mentioned Operation Gladio, but then felt the need to respond when I brought up the KLA. He responded only by saying, “I heard the Soviets say that.” Then realized he had betrayed his Cold War mentality, and fixed it by saying “I heard the Russians say it.” He could only nod reluctantly when I said “Western historians don’t deny that sir, right?” He then deliberatively repeated “I heard the Russians say that.” If it was some type of coded-language that I was supposed to get, I didn’t. Then, quickly, it was agreed that it was time for lunch.

I pressed on and asked him, while he walked to lunch, whether he thought the mimetic war-games that took place on 9/11 were a coincidence. He shrugged it off like it was a joke. I waited for some other folks to talk with him while dodging some of the various handlers trying to fend me off of the put-upon general. And then, after reminding him of his assertion that the 9/11 investigation had not been finished by the Commission, and asserting that I took Article III Section 3 of the Constitution to mean that a cover-up of an act of war is treason, I asked him again if he thought those mimetic war-games were a coincidence on 9/11. He never gave an answer, except for saying “c’mon” after I asked him if his silence was an answer of some sort.

So, all in all, Clark’s responses to some serious allegations and questions were:
1) “I heard the Russians say that”
and
2) “…”

Maybe I shouldn’t have “overwhelmed him.” It’s just that I expect much more from a man who took an oath to willingly kill or be killed to defend our Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic. Saying that “we’ve never finished the investigation of 9/11″ or musing “whether the administration actually misused the intelligence information it had,” and then not answering a sincere questioner is just not going to cut it from an alleged patriot at this late date of an all-out Constitutional and civilizational crisis.

And I don’t think it could even be argued that Clark is dim-witted or ignorant. He has consistently excelled wherever he is operating, was valedictorian of his class at West Point and later awarded a Rhodes Scholarship.
Clark also received a Knighthood and is recognized by Britain as a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire. The motto of this Order is “For God and the Empire.” Maybe that’s part of the problem.

Finally, in recognition of the hypocrisy of this man speaking about “International Justice,” note that Clark has given public support for the “School of the Americas,” now known as the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, where many dictators and death-squads have been trained over the decades in such un-American arts as torture and psychological warfare. Many of the graduates of this school have perpetrated numerous international injustices, war crimes and political murders. So, I vote for no more talk from Mr. Clark about justice of any kind until he fesses up about the hard and dark facts that must be faced in order to create the beautiful future our descendants deserve and our ancestors dream.

Postponing the election: It’s a joke, or is it?

Alex Beam

Thank heavens for the Internet; it’s put the surprise back in October Surprise.

Here is the latest big-picture conspiracy theory, which has been gathering strength on the blogosphere the way a hurricane feeds on Caribbean waters: It is widely believed, both online and, increasingly, offline, that the Bush administration intends to declare martial law and postpone next month’s elections. To prevent Barack Obama’s inevitable ascension to the Oval Office, obviously.

This theory/rumor/delusion dates back almost a year and a half, with the appearance on the White House website of National Security Presidential Directive 51, which outlined a policy for “continuity of government” in the event of a national emergency. Such emergency is defined as “any incident . . . that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the US population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions.”

White House spokesman Scott Stanzel says the new directive supplants a Cold War-era emergency memorandum that is no longer valid in the post-9/11 world, with the country at risk of a “no-notice terrorist attack.” But on websites with names such as justanothercoverup.com and abovetopsecret.com, the public document - often described as “secret” - was read quite differently. “FEMA Official States Bush Is Planning to Implement Martial Law,” is a headline from justanothercoverup. “Pelosi Declared Martial Law Last Night,” was a September headline from abovetopsecret.

Like a much-awaited Messiah (I am channeling the famous sociological text “When Prophecy Fails”), the date of the martial law takeover keeps moving forward. This spring it was to coincide with the bombing of Iran, this summer with the devastation wrought by Hurricane Ike. In the minds of conspiracy theorists, the current economic crisis seems like a propitious moment for the suspension of the November election.

The martial law paranoia has an engaging adjunct: the “FEMA coffins” story. If you Google those words, you will find pictures, videos, and reams of text explaining that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has stockpiled 30,000 - or is it 50,000? - coffins (or are they coffin liners? or . . . boxes?) in anticipation of a vast civil disturbance, presumably triggered by the imposition of martial law. “We do not have FEMA coffins,” says spokeswoman Debbie Wing.

On the one hand you say, OK, this is Internet madness. On the other hand, you note that Ireland’s largest bookmaker, Paddy Power, is laying 20-1 odds that the American election will be postponed. When I first checked that site on Tuesday, the odds were 40-1.

We’ve seen this movie before, right? Writer Ron Rosenbaum remembers a 1972 story averring that Richard Nixon asked the RAND Corporation to study whether he could postpone that election, which he won, handily. University of California historian Kathryn Olmsted, author of the forthcoming “Real Enemies: Conspiracy Theories and American Democracy, World War I to 9/11″ notes that Franklin Roosevelt’s many enemies were convinced that he would assume dictatorial powers and cancel the election of 1944, which he won handily.

“There are all kinds of trends coming together now to feed the paranoia,” Olmsted says. “The financial meltdown evokes Americans’ longtime fear and hatred of bankers, and people on the right think Obama’s candidacy might mean the end of civilization. What’s scary to the left right now is that Obama has a good chance of winning, and there is a segment of the far left that thinks ‘they’ will never let this happen.”

And of course, there is this inconvenient, animating truth: “Sometimes the government does engage in real conspiracies, like Watergate, Iran-Contra, and the assassination plot again Castro,” Olmsted explains.

I am sure you remember William S. Burroughs’s famous observation: A paranoid is a man with all the facts at his disposal.

Say goodnight, Sarah
The Sarah-Palindrome contest is officially over. (A palindrome is a word or phrase, like "Madam, I'm Adam," that's spelled the same backward or forward.) Here is the last official entry, from Little, Brown copy editor Ben Allen: "Harasser of taxes: A mav, a ma, sex at fore's Sarah." The judges will announce their decision in this space on Election Day, Nov. 4. Unless the Bush administration declares. . . . Oh, never mind.
