Professional help & medication! Quickly. I was married to a bi-polar and my boss is a bi-polar. Neither on meds. If you care about your friendship, get them help. Also, if this relationship is a close one, they have meetings where people go to get help on how to deal with loved ones that are bi-polar.

For me it's not even in what they can "give" to me. I don't believe it has to be shiny to be a great gift. I'd rather have a gift from the heart than from a checkbook/credit card. I'd rather go on a picnic than somewhere he had to spend a lot of money for.

I recently (last Thanksgiving) reconnected with my 1st love after 15 years. We agreed the "what if" was better this way. But, it was nice to have a chance to find out - many don't get that chance. He's still one of my best friends and he'll always hold a part of my heart that no one else ever will.
