I dont think intelligence is about how much you know, that would be knowledge, which is different. A relatively less intelligent person can study hard to gain a greater knowledge than somebody more naturally talented at retaining information. I say intelligence is measured by how easily you understand things and the speed in which you can process information. Retaining information long term is different from intelligence as well, that would be memory. But then memory, knowledge and your brains processing power are ALL key factors in how intelligent a person appears.

well i found this...!

Political affiliation could be all in the brain

* 18:00 09 September 2007
* NewScientist.com news service
* Roxanne Khamsi

A brain scan might one day predict your voting patterns. That is the implication of a study that found different brain activity among liberals and conservatives asked to carry out a simple button-pushing test. The study implies that our political diversity may be the result of neurological differences.

Its nice to know u feel like that, cos i feel i am not academically inclined, but i feel i have a good understanding of life and ppl.

I dont have much qualifications, my mum n dad split up when i was at high school, and i just lost the motivation to want better for myself. I returned to education as an adult, refreshing my core skills and i have worked in a college for the last 3yrs. I dont have any degrees, and i often feel inferior to ppl who have gained qualifications, but i dont want to feel like that cos i feel i offer summit valuable to our world too! im just not academically intelligent!

Sorry might be slightly off topic but if you want to define intelligence you have it.
Pink from what I have read of your posts I am of the opinion you should not feel inferior to anyone. You strike me as a good person. Actually you express yourself pretty well. Not only making clear statements but supporting them. Is your spelling and Capitalization relaxed? Sure; so what; that is what Spell Check is for and this is a forum not advanced English Composition. You hang in there and you will do fine in the long run.

Aw, thank you very much for the kind words, they are much apreciated. flowerforyou

I must add at this point, the way i write on here is a chosen style lol! My English is actually one of my stronger subjects! I'm just lazy and choose to write in shortcut language!

I use phonetics in my learning methods at work, so i hope im ok lol!!

Academic knowledge is okay, as long as it pertains to something in your life. If you went to college and learned useless information, things you will never use because discussing 18th century literature with the crowd at your factory job, what good is it?

So I tend to think more along the lines of experience gained knowledge. It might be more useful and helpful in your day-to-day life and a more common factor in others lives.

I tend to agree with u there...qualifications help with things like getting a job, being financially secure (which i know is important)fulfilling career ambitions etc...while experience gained knowledge tends to help at times of personal emotional situations, relationships with others, personal choices, and practical issues.

Thats kinda how i feel....but then again, some ppl go thru life with fair ease, while others experience much in a short time....does this mean 1 will be more intelligent than the other?

I am honestly looking for diverse thought, i enjoy it :)

Ive noticed lately that there has been a few references in threads related to intelligence.

This is a subject i have covered before on another site, but i thought it would be nice to hear new opinions.

To me, intelligence means u have knowledge of certain subjects, whether that be academic, or practical.

Often, i get the impression some ppl think that to be intelligent, u must have a good education and a degree. I dont think like that, i think that a person can have a lot of knowledge about life/relationships/people and can acquire it thru experiences in life, and not neccessarily thru academic inclination.

Then that leads me to think....which 1 is more valuable when it comes to having a good quality of life? Academic knowledge, or experience gained knowledge?

Topic: HARD WORK Thu 10/02/08 09:49 AM
I like a balance of both, and i have that in my job.

Im always on the move, and have to deal with many students demanding my attn, which can include dealing with emotional issues, physical issues and social issues. I also have to work with a diverse group of students in class finding methods for their learning. My job is very intense, and at times, my colleagues and i dont even get to sit down for lunch without a student coming in and asking us to deal with an issue they have.

Its very intense and unpredictable at times, but i actually thrive on it. I like to come home at the end of the day knowing i have provided a quality service, made a difference, and worked hard.

What's wrong with gamers? Gamers are awesome! The stuff you do on a game you cant do in real life, well, in most cases. So when I see a guy who is level 70 with epics, defeating a world boss, I want to go to that guy and learn everything he knows, and I would want to be with him. To be able to control a character and make him/her your own, is unbelievably awesome. And playing video games are good for you, dont believe me, check out this link:

Then u r like-minded and it wouldnt bother u, but imo, anything that takes u away from reality is a form of escapism, and escapism is not a good thing when overdone, particularly when u have a partner in the room with u, i would see that as ignorant and inconsiderate.

Yup, and thats cos it is a GAME and its not real, on the flip side, there is much to be enjoyed in the real world, that u cant do online.

Like any addiction, the lines of reality and fantasy become fogged.

This is a wonderful thread, and it should be kept alive for those who r involved in it.

I do not have children with additional support needs, but my job involves assisting young ppl/adults (16-70) who have ASN's, in their learning.

I adore my job, and i am passionate about it. My main group that i work with is Lifeskills, there r 2 lads with autism, 1 with ADHD, 2 with CP and 2 with Down Syndrome. There is 10 students in the class. I spend more time with the group than their lecturers, and its my job to help them find methods in their learning in a variety of subjects.

I also work with other groups with various support needs.

I can only imagine how difficult it must be to be constantly positive and strong, but i also understand the feeling of just getting on with it, and doing wat u must for the love of ur child.

Much respect to the parents who work so hard to make sure their children have a good quality of life and equal opportunities.

I think when in public, it is difficult to have personal space, as we r all part of this big world, and there r many of us who share it.

In work places and ur own home, yes, it is possible to have control over it.
