You always know just what I meant
When it's not what I have said
Your gleaning touches nothing
That resides inside my head

I write words that you translate
To have a different spin
You tell me that you think my words
Meant something else, again

I know best just what I spoke
I know my certain meaning
And you can speculate all day
With pride that's overweening

To try to make the words I wrote
Fit to your little plan
And you can walk away, head high
Sure you're the better man

And I will know that you mistook
Each word that you beheld
With knowledge that you were so wrong
While like a tree, I'm felled
