I really like the new format here. I have a question though. Why do people post photos of models or celebrities and not photos of themselves? Is there any way to curb this trend. Can it be a RULE that you must post YOUR OWN, RECENT photo?

Now what fun would it be if you knew what the person you were talking to actually looked like??

Rocky I agree with you. I would much rather see a photo of the actual person rather than their "portrayal" of themselves. However, you have to also keep in mind that it is a free site, and not everyone is looking for romance either. Some may only be seeking friendships or activity partners in which case, their physical appearance would not be an issue.
On a personal level, for myself, I will not meet a man face to face I have not seen a photo of simply for safety reasons. I can understand your point absolutely.

Most of us are hideous. That's why I use this picture of a paid, professional model to represent me.

My personality is also fabricated. I am really a celebrity doing research for an upcoming film on mating rituals for recluses.

I’m not sure that they are attempting to fool anyone. I hope not. I think it’s simply that they are not comfortable with having a photo of themselves on their profile. Perhaps they want to better get to know a person before sending them photos by email? I don’t know. The problem with that is since I have photos of myself posted, it’s only fair and that will nip the correspondence in the bud.

Notice LJ's use of Susan Sarandon's headshot from "Thelma and Louise."

She does look a little like her. I mean that as a compliment.

If we are not looking for dates, what difference does it make what we look like?
And some who are looking for dates are very careful because they are going through custody battles, or they are school teachers, etc. and just don't want people to be able to pull up their pic on an internet dating site.

I think as long as they have their own photos on their profile somewhere it shouldn't be a big deal what the default pic is.
