I'll work on this more later, but I'm basically just a nice, honest geek. I'm adaptable and like trying new things. I cook and have a variety of hobbies that I'm not terribly serious about. I spend most of my day right now trying to find enough fun challenges to fill it. There are a million more things I could put here, but you've read it all before. Someone somewhere already said it. Still, if you read ahead, maybe I'll say it differently. I'm not someone who easilly quantifies into little boxes like this. And you'll never know who or what I am unless you meet me.
I'll probably be hanging out in the forums. I love a good talk among like-minded folks. Or, as is more often the case online, a debate among a few intelligent folks and a metric ton of morons. Though, having visited the forums here, I'm noticing that most of the usual flamers and random posters seem to be missing. Ironically, this isn't cutting into my fun any.
I try to spend my live laughing at it. There's not much out there that's funnier than people and the silly things we do. From our organizations and governments right down to grocery store sale tags which don't display any savings off the regular price, humanity is rife with humor just waiting for silly people like me to point out.
I have a tendancy toward the archaic. No, I generally don't dress like a pirate. But I do think ancient forms and practices can be as or more valid than modern ones. I employ a structured person honor system and enjoy people who are blunt-spoken but know how to do it without inflicting unnecessary damage. I believe that virtually any mistake I can make has been made, and I study history to help find those mistakes so I don't have to make them. It doesn't always work, of course.
A word of caution. More of my partners have been Long Distance than not. This isn't because I believe I can't find a good woman here, but mostly because I play the odds. I'm an oddball. There are only so many interested parties in any environment. Broader horizons have to be accepted to find what I want. I will admit, though, that this has made me feel occasionally clumsy in local situations.
I'm defenitely addicted to sci-fi and fantasy. Geek would be a nice way of saying it in my case - I not only watch and read but I game. Either Role Playing (Old Skool pen & paper games) or computerized. No Online games! Whereas a lot of people might see this as an admission of Hopeless Looserism, I like to think it helps keep my wits and creativity sharp.
As should be inferred from this kind of rambling post, I rarely consider anything finalized or immutable. Life is ever-changing and ever-growing and I do not believe it has any absolutes - except perhaps that it eventually ends. I will rarely say anything without hedging my bets, but it isn't that I'm indecisive. Actually, most of my friends would call me one of the most resolute people they know. But I don't believe in making statements of fact that don't allow for growth, change, and the unknown unless I am willing to stake my life and honor on the answer.
I do not believe in statistical data. I misbelieve any "science" in which two people given the exact same list of numbers and results can arrive at completely opposing answers. People who tell me they're "into math" because they "understand statistics" sicken me. They are the people who do not understand the juxtaposition between science and math - and in science data leads to answers rather than ambiguous romanticized support of an individual's beliefs. In other words, statistics are a junk science. Full of sound and fury, but signifying the contents of my sewage system.
Unlike many people, I connect political and social dots very quickly. I only say unlike because people seem more intent on fooling themselves about our world today than in fixng problems or demanding that the government fix them. I vote. I tend to be active in support of just causes. It amazes me how many people aren't.
I notice that virtually every profile I see is exactly the same. "I'm a happy person looking for something barely defined. Oh, and I'd like them to look good." But these profiles never say what looks good to them. People seem to be assuming people's tastes are everyone's tastes. I don't, so I just wanted the ladies out there to know that they should listen to the fashion industry less - as it's setting a standard that can only lead you to pain - and listen more to other industries. Women should have some curves and a good shape to them. For me, face is the most important part. I need someone who's open and smiling with me, not glaring out of their picture like the world hates them.
More later, as it comes to me. Send me a message!
