I've been to the Tibetian Himalayans and my mouth dropped open in awe. I've prayed in the ancient temples of southern China, inhaling the intoxicating smells of sweet incense and grass right after the rainfall. I've had adventures grand and small, from riding through the Mongolian deserts to chance encounters in the local pub, but through all the paths I've traveled, I've yet to meet you.
Maybe you were going to show up in the city night, when I was looking up at the first gentle snowfall of the year, admiring the quiet beauty of the silent storm? Or perhaps while I was purusing the bookstore's latest bestsellers? I looked for you in the cafe, while I sat down for some late night work sipping a bittersweet dark chocolate mocha. Bittersweet not in taste, but in actual fact … because you weren't there to share it with me.
It's not that my life isn't full. Between family and friends, my preparation for medical school, my research projects for the US army, and traveling, I'm happy in my life, especially giving service to others. I can find happiness in a jumping party or even an evening alone or with close friends, sharing thoughts and ideas around the TV.
I see us hiking together, walks through the city, checking out the latest movies and theatre productions, and discovering out-of-the-way mom and pop Italian cafes. We'll probably be the last couple to leave, since we're deep into a conversation not about people, but about ideas and philosophies. I'm loyal and sincere, and promise to treat you with courtesy and respect. If respect comes first, then true intimacy naturally follows. But consider yourself warned: I'm old-fashioned and will want to open doors for you! Since we'll be discovering a whole new world together, I expect you'll get your chance to open a door or two for me as well. Send me a message!
