She hides her true self behind her shy exterior. As and eighteen-year old young multi-cultural woman, she has stumbled through life finding joy in adventures that her family simply cannot understand. Her love for the nontraditional death metal, screamo, and other types of music has left others questioning her mindset. She has ventured toward those who share a hidden desire to stand out through self-expression. In a crowd of friends with multiple facial piercing, tattoos galore and multi-colored hair, she has found happiness. During the day, she works at the YMCA surrounding herself with elementary school children who exhibit an array of emotions. The majority are loud, others are quiet and some just seem hidden. As she watches the children play the Nintendo Wii and Guitar Hero, she pays close attention to the mix of personalities and begins focusing heavily on her own. After six months spending hours upon hours with the children, she has come to an understanding of herself. By day, she walks with a mask. With frequent trips to Wal- Mart, the mall, the Byrd Theatre on occasion and the local libraries for a bit of light reading, her life seems just as normal as the next. However, by night- she becomes an uninhibited social butterfly. Recently experiencing the club scene with friends, she climbed into a cage for the first time. Letting go of all inhibitions, the music played loud and the dance with strangers became wild. These random people were exposed to her most comfortable form, a side of herself unknown to those who would not understand. Late-night weekend visits to Tiki Bob’s, Sahara’s and Have a Nice Day Café have become an obsession. Here stands a walking paradox. Send me a message!
