I love life's big questions, and I always try to be involved in what's worth doing. I have a research Ph.D. in Psychology. I am currently being trained by a paranormal investigation unit to research hauntings in the region. Most of my work to date has been to explore the role of dreams in our personalities and waking lives.
I am an all purpose man. I love participating in sports. I can still lay out for a ball thrown too far or slide in front of a slapshot. I like to walk can walk extreme distances. There's always something to wrap my mind around. I have fond memories of living off-campus without transportation as a college student. Walked 6 miles to campus at daybreak & 6 home every evening.
I lived all over but did not have to travel to experience the adventures that make for good film/reading. For one, I published a controversial novel & survived Salman Rushdie style fallout.
I have been a technical writer, IT entrepreneur (designed a data integration, analysis, & reporting tool for cancer centers), senior researcher for US Department of Labor, & small business owner. If I rewind back to my high school summer jobs, I have even worked with a city's road crew paving roads, painting street signs, and mowing parks. That same year, I managed to place first in a state male modeling competition I was coerced to enter by my DECA teacher* (asterisk is for New Jersey). I was even briefly contracted with the Army through an ROTC scholarship but though I enjoyed the physical challenges, I never could master the cadence. I am congenitally incapable of moving in unison. It's the same thing that kept me out of organized sports in high school even with the gym teachers courting me to join track, wrestling & football teams. Jealously guarding my freedom & individuality kept me from dating in high school (that and looking 25% younger than my actual age). To find a girlfriend back in the days before the Net, you had to have diplomacy, tact, and just a little guile. You had to infiltrate her circle of friends, gain acceptance without letting on that you liked her and ... uh forget it. Too much trouble
So I don't come up in any woman's searches b/c I'm no one's ideal height. Cue the violins. It's easy to get a sense of what women need from men in terms of height. Staring me right in the face, directly beneath your username: "HER IDEAL MAN: TALLER THAN X." You see, YAHOO knows what women want. They get it. Even as a child, I knew females needed HEIGHT in men, but I thought it was a childhood thing that would scale back as women matured psychologically.
Over 90% of you need a man over 5'10". Now I'm 5'6". Do you know what I'd like to say to the only YAHOO woman who indicated she would be generous enough to date a 5'8" man: "you're 5'2"! :} And what of those women who list their height requirements as "5'10" - 6'10"? I even found one profile in which the ceiling was 7'10". 7'10"? Are you sure that's enough MAN for you? I could almost see the wheels turning in the female brain: "Hmm. How tall CAN A MAN GET? 7'10" ought to cover it. Don't want to leave anyone out at the HIGH end of the scale." :}
Some of you claim you like to feel PROTECTED by a man. I'd sure like to know what your protection needs are. This must be a vestigial holdover from times before humans walked erect. I guarantee I am all the protection you need against any ONE unarmed man and even if the man is armed, I can buy you more time than these slow-witted, slow-moving burly guys. But I don't know many men who can guarantee your safety in the face of a firearm or British soccer mob. Just think. Long after Martin Luther King has his dream fulfilled and women VPs have as many corner offices as their male counterparts, there will always be short men.
So many of you claim to want an honest and funny guy. Something real. And yet I just know you're all looking in the wrong places. From the men I've talked to, I think you're all seeing the same 5 guys. Send me a message!
