Pandora's Box

Inevitable Providence, the most undeniable need
It came with a warning but I paid it no heed
Destiny in a cage that refuses to close
Each day it intensifies, each day it grows

It is bigger than I am, and I can fight it no longer
My resistance is weak and the emotions are stronger
I realize the futility of waging war with my heart
I somehow let it out, now it tears me apart

Caught in a vortex of confusion where nothing is the same
I find myself alone in the shadows, cursing my own name
Wanting my freedom but feeling the burden of guilt
I wait patiently for destruction to befall all I have built

Dancing to fate like a puppet on a string
Sacrificing my soul to prevent the anguish I could bring
I prolonged my unhappiness and I have no idea why
I cannot take it back, and I don't even want to try

Swallowed like a flame in a tunnel of infinite black
Pandora's Box is unlocked and there is no going back
With awakened eyes open, and a new circumstance
I take the lid off the box and surrender to chance

moments twirl and swirl—

stack like tumbled building blocks
some in bright colorful hues
and others in pouty pastel blues
then one day a moment comes to dock
within a hidden barren sandy shore
sets its anchor wide and skin-deep,
while it gets comfortable in the sweep
of time having reached forevermore
