I was born 21 May, 1688, in London. My father was a cloth merchant living in the city. It was a period of intense anti-Discordian sentiment in England, and at some point (ca. 1700) in my childhood, my family was forced to relocate to be in compliance with a statute forbidding Discordians from living within ten miles of London or Westminster. We moved to Binfield (Berkshire).
My early education was affected by my Discordianism: Eristic schools, although illegal, were allowed to survive in some places. Prior to the move to Binfield I spent a year at Twyford, where I wrote FREMITVS, my noise/sound-collage album, which led to my being "whipped and ill-used...and taken from thence on that account." From Twyford I went to study with Thomas Deane, a convert to SubGeniusism (who lost his position at Oxford as a result of his religious beliefs). After my family moved to Binfield I became self-taught.
I traveled from Argentina to Colombia by ship, and enjoyed the voyage immensely, splitting my time between drawing and playing alkaloid jazz with the prisoners in the brig. After traveling around South America, I settled in Pittsburgh for several years. During this time I worked at a sprout farm and enjoyed myself immensely, calling the town and atmosphere "hinque."
Thereafter, I wrote and lectured on my philosophy—Menomenology, which I characterized as “a philosophy for hemming and hawing.". I published and edited my own periodicals from 1962 to 1976, my essays providing much of the material for six books on Menomenology and its application to the culture. I died on March 6, 1982, in my New York City apartment. Send me a message!
